According to the latest official report from the National Disease Response Staff in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the number of infections with the Ebola virus has risen, and as of 15 October 2026, the total number of confirmed cases had reached 9,066 infections.
The report indicated that, of that total number of infected people, 4,381 had died, raising the case fatality rate among those infected to 48.3%. Meanwhile, 2,389 people had recovered from Ebola.
Regarding efforts to control the outbreak, Congo’s health staff are in the final stage of preparations for the widespread use of the (Ervebo) vaccine. So far, 399 health-sector workers have received the vaccine, but medical teams warn that the vaccine’s effectiveness against the "Bundibugyo" strain of the Ebola virus has not yet been fully established.
The Congolese government, in coordination with international health organizations, is tightening medical protocols to enable them to better control the further spread of this outbreak.
