The head of the KDP bloc said: "We are closely and carefully following the wave of protests by the people of beloved Kirkuk, who have taken to the streets in response to the unjustified increase in the price per ampere charged by private generators."
Dr. Shakhawan Abdullah stressed that it is unjust for the people of Kirkuk—who live atop the country’s energy resources and wealth—to pay the price for the neglect of basic services and this unfair decision.
In this context, Shakhawan Abdullah referred to their efforts, saying: "At our meeting with the Minister of Electricity, one of the main issues we discussed was increasing the province’s share of national electricity so that this burden can be immediately lifted from citizens’ shoulders and prices reduced."
At the end of his message, the Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives assured the citizens of Kirkuk that they would continue their pressure and relentless follow-up with the relevant authorities until all of their legitimate demands were implemented.
