The statement said that the increase in the price per ampere of generator electricity has placed a heavy financial burden on people’s livelihoods, particularly on business owners and low-income families in Kirkuk. It also stressed that generator owners’ rights must be protected by providing them with fuel at a government-subsidized price so they can supply electricity to residents without incurring losses.
The KDP Organizational Office called on the relevant authorities to adopt a balanced decision that both reduces the price per ampere and ensures fuel supplies for generators. It also noted that in recent days, through its faction on the Kirkuk Provincial Council, it had worked vigorously to resolve the issue.
In another part of the statement, the KDP warned security forces and called on them to deal responsibly with citizens’ legitimate protests and to completely refrain from violence, stressing that it is the duty of the Iraqi government to provide basic services and respect the demands of all components and groups in the city.
