In a post on the “X” platform, Obama said the Democratic Party’s gains were driven by capable candidates who competed across the country, including in areas where their chances of winning were slim. He also noted that, despite differences in their views, the candidates were united by shared values and a commitment to serving citizens. At the same time, he praised staff and volunteers from both parties for conducting the elections peacefully.
Regarding the next phase of governance in the United States, Obama emphasized that Donald Trump’s administration still has two years remaining and stressed: “Our job now is to roll up our sleeves, make changes wherever we can, prevent further damage and lay a strong foundation for the future.”
Obama’s remarks came after the Democrats’ notable gains in the elections, which shifted the balance of power in Washington in their favor and paved the way for a new confrontation between the White House and Congress during the remaining two years of Trump’s presidency.
