On Thursday, November 5, in a diplomatic initiative, the Kurdistan Parliament Presidency, led by Parliament Speaker Dr. Vala Farid and attended by Deputy Speaker Rami Nouri and Parliament Secretary Mona Nabi Qahwachi, welcomed consuls and diplomatic representatives of foreign countries in the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting focused on the latest legal steps to reactivate the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament, with emphasis placed on safeguarding the constitutional and legal status and entity of the Kurdistan Region.
In an address, Dr. Vala Farid highlighted the importance of reactivating Parliament in accordance with Articles 46, 47 and 48 of Law No. 1 of 1992 (as amended) and the internal regulations, describing the move as a national necessity to protect the Region’s entity. She noted that the two-year delay in reactivating Parliament had not only stalled the legislative process but had also created a threat to preserving the legitimacy of the Region’s entity.
The Parliament speaker called on all political blocs to return to the parliamentary chamber to carry out their core oversight and legislative duties. She made clear that the move was not directed against any political party, but was intended to serve the public interest and all communities.
For their part, the deputy speaker and the Parliament secretary stressed the importance of reactivating the legislative institution as a guarantee for securing the full rights of Kurdistan’s ethnic and religious communities.
Meanwhile, the consuls and representatives of foreign countries in the Kurdistan Region welcomed the resumption of parliamentary work as a positive step toward strengthening the democratic process, and reiterated their desire to further consolidate bilateral relations with the Kurdistan Parliament.
