Today, Thursday, November 5, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, inaugurated the Kore–Shaqlawa–Qandil dual carriageway project.
In a speech, the prime minister said: “A very beautiful and well-organized road has been built. Although it was extremely difficult—as you can see—to fill in and cut through the mountains, they have built it in a very beautiful and orderly manner, to international standards. I thank North Light Company for carrying out this excellent project and hope they will always succeed, that there will be many more projects like this, and that we will be able to build all the roads in Kurdistan to this high standard and connect our cities. This will undoubtedly make it much easier for citizens to travel, for tourists visiting Kurdistan, for trade, for reducing travel time, and for transporting goods and connecting cities. This road will have an impact on all of these areas and will help citizens.”
The prime minister also expressed hope that citizens would benefit from the dual carriageway, while urging them to observe traffic regulations for their own safety, the safety of their families and the safety of other citizens.
In another part of his speech, the prime minister said that the anthem “Ey Reqîb” can be heard on part of the road. “What is different about this dual carriageway, and what struck me, is that the anthem ‘Ey Reqîb’ has been incorporated into the road. If you drive at a speed of 80 (kilometers per hour), you will hear the anthem ‘Ey Reqîb,’ which is truly something very beautiful. I hope you try it—but take it easy and, God willing, without any problems or difficulties,” he said.
