As the nuclear dossier remains one of the main sources of tension between Tehran and Western countries, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that his country has still not entered into any kind of nuclear negotiations with the United States and that the issue is not on their agenda.
In response to reports circulated about mediation and Russia’s role in possible talks between Washington and Tehran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that no negotiations with the American side have yet begun, so their details can be discussed with Moscow or other countries.
Esmail Baghaei also made clear that Tehran would in no way back down from its positions on the dossier concerning its nuclear program, although the issue was discussed during his meeting with the Russian foreign minister.
This latest insistence by Iran’s diplomatic apparatus shows that Tehran’s authorities remain committed to implementing their previous policies, without presenting any clear prospect or avenue for restarting negotiations.
This situation comes as the fundamental problem is not limited to the political disagreements between Washington and Tehran; rather, public opinion is awaiting the authorities’ response to the serious financial and economic consequences and crises that the continuation of this international impasse has imposed on the future and livelihoods of the Iranian people.
