The US news website Axios, citing several informed sources, revealed that Pete Hegseth, the US defense secretary, met with Benjamin Netanyahu, the country’s prime minister, during an undeclared and secret trip to Israel.
According to the website, the meeting was held at Ovda Air Base in southern Israel, a base where US military fighter jets and tanker aircraft are stationed. The sensitive trip took place just eight days before Israel’s general election and coincides with intensive consultations and coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv regarding the possibility of resuming extensive military operations against Iran.
It was also noted that during the trip, the US defense secretary met with American soldiers in the US Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility. The move comes after US President Donald Trump officially reiterated his support for Netanyahu’s victory in the upcoming election—an act that clearly demonstrates the strength of security and military coordination between the two allies at this sensitive stage.
