Today, Saturday, the U.S. Department of State said in a statement that citizens of the country should not travel to Iraq under any circumstances, as the U.S. government's ability to provide emergency services to its citizens there is limited due to security risks.
The department noted that “Iran-aligned Houthis are engaged in hostile actions against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and critical infrastructure that have resulted in civilian casualties and disruptions to flight schedules, and there is a possibility that these hostile actions will rapidly escalate in the region.” At the same time, it stressed that the Iraqi government cannot guarantee the security of American citizens.
It also said that American citizens in Iraq face risks including violence, kidnapping and terrorism. Iran-aligned militias and ISIS are instigators and perpetrators of attacks against U.S. figures and interests.
