Late last night, a planted bomb exploded in central Deir ez-Zor near the “Old Bridge,” without causing any casualties.
Today, Friday, 23 October 2026, Syria’s official news agency (SANA) reported that late last night a planted bomb exploded near the Old Bridge (al-Jisr al-Atīq) in the city of Deir ez-Zor, in northeastern Syria, without causing any damage or injuries.
Meanwhile, Syria TV indicated that the sound of an explosion had been heard around the Old Bridge in the city center. It later emerged that it had been the explosion of a planted bomb. No party has yet claimed responsibility for planting the bomb.
The incident comes as, on 1 October 2026, a bomb attached to a vehicle belonging to the internal security forces exploded at the al-Jazira al-Bu Hamid checkpoint in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, causing the vehicle to catch fire and injuring two security personnel. The Criminal Evidence Division later announced that an investigation into the suspects had begun.
It is worth noting that last Thursday, Syria’s internal security forces also announced that two of their members had been killed and five others injured during a joint operation with the intelligence service in the town of Rankous, in the western countryside of Damascus, in which a cell affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS near the Lebanese border had been targeted.
