The Iraq Integrity Commission announced the implementation of arrest warrants for the former director of electricity distribution in Muthanna Governorate and 12 officials and another employee, on charges of causing damage to public funds amounting to more than 6 billion dinars.
According to a statement by the Integrity Commission, the field team of the Muthanna Investigation Office, after following up and inspecting the Muthanna branch of the General Company for Southern Electricity Distribution, uncovered the waste of 6,150,000,000 dinars (six billion and 150 million), which had been spent by the department to purchase electrical equipment and materials without any genuine need for those items.
The Integrity Commission indicated that the department’s former director, together with the other defendants, in 2024, with the aim of committing fraud and purchasing the largest possible number of electrical boards, manipulated the measurement unit and the purchase requests; as a result, a large portion of those items remained unused and uninstalled. In addition, 48 power-factor-improvement boards were placed in the used-equipment warehouse and are currently under seizure.
The statement also said that the investigating judge of the Integrity Court in Muthanna issued a detention order for the former director of electricity distribution in the governorate and 12 employees, pursuant to Article 340 of the Iraqi Penal Code, comprising the former accounting director, the sales director, officials in the internal audit, stations and warehouses departments, and members of the procurement committee. At the same time, an arrest warrant was issued for 3 another employee, and a travel ban was imposed on all the defendants.
