Iraq’s Integrity Commission announced that a specialized court sentenced the former director general of the Petroleum Products Distribution Company (Hussein Talib) to 8 years in prison after confirming charges of obtaining unlawful benefits and profits from oil-sector contracts.
According to the Integrity Commission’s official statement, in the case involving unlawful benefit from contracts of the North Refineries Company (Masafi al-Shamal), in addition to the 8-year prison sentence, the court ordered the convict to return 55 billion dinars to the state’s public treasury.
This judicial ruling comes within the framework of the broad campaign by Iraq’s official institutions to pursue corruption cases, prevent the squandering of public assets, and return stolen funds to the state treasury.
