In one of Iraq’s cities, a prisoner pretended to be ill and escaped police custody while being transferred to a hospital; he has not been recaptured so far.
The incident occurred Monday evening at one of the police stations in the center of the city of Najaf.
The suspect had been detained under Article 395 of the Iraqi Penal Code. His alleged crime was having an illicit relationship with a woman and later refusing to marry her.
The suspect, who is about 50 years old, pretended to be ill at the police station and requested treatment and to be taken to hospital. While being transferred to the hospital, he escaped from the police and fled.
Najaf police said they had begun investigating and searching for the suspect in order to arrest him again.
