Tehran – The political deputy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in warning remarks, stressed that if the United States and its allies make any incursion against the country’s infrastructure, the Islamic Republic of Iran can target key internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz.
Brig. Gen. Yadollah Javani, the IRGC’s political deputy, told Al-Alam news network that Tehran had shifted its approach toward “smart and, in some cases, offensive” actions to enhance its deterrence capabilities. He said: “If the United States and its regional allies damage Iran’s infrastructure, the Islamic Republic will also use all of its capabilities to strike their assets and infrastructure.”
Emphasizing Iran’s technical and operational capabilities, he added: “The seven vital internet cables that pass beneath the waters of the Strait of Hormuz can easily be destroyed, and we certainly have the ability to inflict serious and strategic damage on the United States and its allies.”
The IRGC’s political deputy also noted that Iran’s defensive and missile capabilities for targeting the positions of the United States, Israel and their allies had increased sharply, and that all American bases in the region and even farther afield were within range and included in the Islamic Republic’s target bank.
