On Wednesday, Yemen’s Houthis announced that they had targeted a Saudi-affiliated military position near Aden Airport with a ballistic missile, as well as several military facilities at “Riyan” Airport in the city of Mukalla.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree stated via Telegram that they had targeted Saudi Arabia’s operations room at Badr Camp in Aden with “a ballistic missile.” The camp is located near the city’s airport. This is the third attack in a week on the city, which hosts the temporary headquarters of Yemen’s government.
Meanwhile, two Yemeni government military officials told Agence France-Presse that the Houthis had targeted “Riyan” Airport in Mukalla, the capital of Hadramawt Governorate, with missiles and drones. The airport houses a military base belonging to the Saudi-led Arab coalition forces. This is the first time since the collapse of the 2022 ceasefire that the Houthis have targeted Hadramawt.
Yemen’s Ministry of Transport said in a statement that the attack was carried out using “3 drones,” and that the aircraft had been brought down near the flight paths of Aden and Riyan airports, while civilian air traffic was continuing.
It is noteworthy that these new developments come as fighting has resumed on several fronts in Yemen over the past few weeks. Yemen’s government, backed by Saudi Arabia, has launched a counteroffensive to regain control of areas that fell to the Houthis in September, particularly along Yemen’s western coast toward the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have reached a record level this month, and in addition to Yemen, several areas of Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh Airport, have been targeted.
