The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that, as a result of efforts to clear the Strait of Hormuz of naval mines laid by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, commercial shipping routes are now free and no threat remains.
Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the United States Central Command, said during a visit to the Strait of Hormuz that, since the summer, U.S. forces have assisted their Gulf partners so that more than 1.5 billion barrels of crude oil could be exported safely.
According to a CENTCOM statement, more than 3,000 commercial vessels successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz over the past six months. It also noted that 95% of the vessels that passed through the strait reached their destinations safely, despite the obstacles created by the Revolutionary Guard for maritime traffic.
Admiral Cooper stressed that the United States’ commitment to protecting freedom of maritime navigation in the region remains unchanged and that, in cooperation with their Gulf partners and the shipping sector, they will continue to ensure the security of this important international route.
