Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, rejecting claims by US officials about a decline in Iran’s regional role, said that movements in the global fuel market and the US need to rely on other suppliers are themselves evidence that these claims are false.
According to him, Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz waterway since the beginning of the month of Esfand were not an instrumental measure, but a lawful response under international law to the military aggression and economic pressure of the United States and Israel. Iran stresses that insecurity in this strategic region will continue as long as the naval blockade and Washington’s economic mischief continue; a situation for which the United States’ escalatory policies bear direct responsibility.
