In an interview with the New York Post, Trump said he would conclude his tenure and stated: “Yes, I’m leaving. If I had the opportunity, I would gladly run again, but the law on this matter is very strict and unequivocal.”
He highlighted his popularity and said: “I would gladly run again; recently, they conducted a poll in which I was far ahead of everyone else.” He also made clear that he currently has two more years ahead of him in the Oval Office and believes that significant work and achievements can be accomplished in that period in the interests of the United States.
Donald Trump served as U.S. president from 2017 to 2021. He then won the November 2024 election and was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025.
Under the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, no person may be elected to the office of president more than twice. Therefore, Trump cannot participate in the next U.S. presidential election, scheduled to be held in 2028, despite having previously hinted indirectly that there might be a way for him to run for a third term.
