Today, Friday, November 6, 2026, US President Donald Trump said at a press conference that the United States would never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and that his country might be forced to destroy the capabilities still remaining in Iran. He also revealed that work was under way on a major security agreement in Europe that would also address the Ukraine crisis.
The US president said: "Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons and will not take any step without our consent. It does not matter what the content of the proposals Iran is considering is, because it will never obtain nuclear weapons. If it is necessary to resolve what remains of the Iran issue, we are fully prepared, although I would prefer not to destroy what remains in Iran; however, we may be forced to do so."
Donald Trump also indicated that the United States had taken control of every site in Iran that it wanted to control, and that very soon everyone would know what Washington’s decision regarding Tehran would be. He also revealed that he had spoken with "Dmitriev," the Russian president’s special representative, about drafting the European security agreement.
The US president made the remarks as indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, mediated by Qatar, were under way to end their eight-month war. Before the midterm elections, Trump had expressed optimism on the Truth Social platform that an agreement with Iran was possible because Iran wanted to reach a solution as soon as possible. At the same time, however, rumors were circulating in diplomatic and media circles that a US plan for a new strike on Iran had been prepared for after the elections concluded.
