The Houthi-affiliated Health Ministry said at least 30 civilians were killed and eight others injured in three airstrikes on the Hazara market. It added that rescue teams were continuing to search for other victims beneath the rubble. Yahya Saree, the Houthis’ military spokesperson, claimed the strikes were carried out by an aircraft belonging to the Arab coalition.
In response, the Aden government strongly rejected the allegations and held the Houthis responsible for the “war crime.” The government said none of its aircraft had been operating in the area.
The development comes as Yemen’s conflict has broadly resumed since July, after a four-year ceasefire. Since September, the Houthis have controlled Yemen’s western coastline and the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait. Amid the escalation in Yemen, the Houthis have intensified attacks on Saudi facilities, while Saudi Arabia said it had shot down a drone in the Mecca region. The Houthis, however, continue to insist that Mecca and Medina are not their targets.
