On Sunday evening, 2026/11/8, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, received a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
During the meeting, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region’s relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran were discussed, along with ways to promote joint cooperation across various fields in a manner that serves their shared interests.
Security cooperation and preserving stability in the region were another focus of the meeting. The sides stressed the importance of continuing cooperation and coordination among the countries of the region to strengthen security and stability, while resorting to dialogue, peaceful solutions and diplomacy to resolve disputes and complexities.
The meeting also addressed the security understandings and agreements between Iraq—including the Kurdistan Region—and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The sides exchanged views on several other issues of mutual interest.
