New U.S. Department of State figures show that the new Donald Trump administration’s immigration policy is being implemented at an unprecedented pace. Since the start of Trump’s second presidential term in January 2025, the number of visas revoked by Washington has exceeded 300 thousand, a figure that had been reported at around 175 thousand by mid-August this year and now reflects a significant increase.
U.S. State Department officials, confirming the implementation of a “zero-tolerance” strategy, stressed that visas are being revoked at a faster rate than in any previous period, and that even the slightest legal violation, fraud or threat to national security will lead to the immediate withdrawal of entry authorization.
In contrast, this broad wave of visa revocations has drawn strong criticism from international institutions and human rights groups. These organizations consider the new hard-line process an excessive and troubling measure for the rights of foreign citizens.
