Spanish authorities said that 50 people were killed and many others injured in a collision between two trains in the Castilla-La Mancha region, while high-speed train services on the line between Madrid and the south of the country were suspended until an unspecified time.
Today, Wednesday, 28 of October 2026, Spanish authorities announced that the number of people who died in the collision between two trains in the Castilla-La Mancha region had risen to (50) people.
Meanwhile, Manuel Galán, mayor of the town of "Oreda," confirmed the collision in a statement to Spain’s official television channel (TVE) and referred to the presence of many injured people. At the same time, a spokesperson for Spain’s emergency services explained that the incident occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. local time and that all available resources had been mobilized, including firefighting teams, three rescue helicopters and two mobile intensive-care units to rescue those trapped.
Because of the disaster, Spain’s railway infrastructure manager, Adif, decided to completely suspend train traffic on the high-speed line between the capital Madrid and the south of the country until an unspecified time. It is worth noting that this incident comes less than a year after a similar disaster in the "Adamuz" area in southern Spain, where 46 people died as a result of a collision between two trains.
