The Kurdistan Region’s Fatwa Committee considers obtaining a fatwa from artificial intelligence incorrect and says: It is better for citizens not to rely on this technology for religious questions.
Dr. Hassan Pashdari, a member of the Supreme Fatwa Committee in the Kurdistan Region, said in an interview: “Obtaining a fatwa from artificial intelligence (ChatGPT) is not correct, because many of its answers lack sources.”
He also stated: If a question is asked about a subject through (ChatGPT) and it provides its answer along with a credible source, then there is no problem, after the citizen personally checks that source and makes sure its content is consistent.
He continued: “Most of the time, this technology’s answers lack sources, or the cited sources do not contain information about what (ChatGPT) discusses; therefore, it is better for citizens not to rely on this technology to obtain a fatwa.”
