On the order of the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, all procedures to bring back 11 Kurdish youths detained in Libya have been completed, and they will be returned soon. Meanwhile, efforts to locate 10 other missing people from the Raparin area are continuing.
In a statement issued today, Monday, 5 October 2026, the Kurdistan Regional Government said: After news was received that a number of citizens had gone missing in Libya, the Ministry of Interior and the Department of Foreign Relations were immediately tasked, on the order of Masrour Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, with urgently taking the necessary measures to locate, rescue and bring them back. All procedures related to 11 citizens have now been completed, and they will be returned to the Kurdistan Region in the coming days.
The statement said: At the same time, the Ministry of Interior and the Department of Foreign Relations have intensified all their efforts and capacities to locate and trace 10 other citizens from the Raparin area who have been missing for some time. Search and follow-up efforts are continuing in coordination with the Iraqi Embassy in Libya and through the Kurdistan Regional Government’s representations.
The Kurdistan Regional Government once again warned young people and their families about the importance of avoiding illegal and dangerous migration routes to Western countries. It also pointed out that this type of migration exposes them to severe legal accountability and the risk of death, as in the difficult circumstances faced by those young people, some of whom spent eight months in Libyan prisons and were continuously exposed to the risk of losing their lives during that period.
