The General Directorate of Commerce of the Kurdistan Region warns all merchants and sellers that, under the pretext of changes in the value of the dollar, they must not raise the prices of any kind of goods or commodities in the markets; otherwise, severe penalties will be imposed on violators.
Nawzad Sheikh Kamil, Director General of Commerce, says: The decline in the value of the dinar must not have an immediate effect on the market, because the warehouses and goods that were previously imported will meet citizens’ full needs for approximately 2 more months; therefore, during that period, all prices must remain stable as they are.
The Director General of Commerce noted: Market-monitoring committees continuously inspect purchase and sales invoices at markets and warehouses. Anyone who unlawfully raises prices will face strict legal measures and financial penalties.
Nawzad Sheikh Kamil also stressed that, in support of merchants, the Council of Ministers of the Kurdistan Region is working to reduce customs taxes and fees so that no burden is created for citizens.
This statement by the General Directorate of Commerce of the Kurdistan Region comes at a time when, according to a new decision in Baghdad, the official selling price of 100 US dollars to citizens has been raised from 132 thousand dinars to 152 thousand dinars.
