Representatives of the Chaldean, Syriac, Assyrian and Armenian components in the Kurdistan Parliament called, in an official statement marking the second anniversary of the election of the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament, held on 20 October 2024, on all political factions to reactivate the Parliament as soon as possible.
The statement said that on 20 October 2024, voters from the components and all the people of Kurdistan went to the ballot boxes to elect their representatives in a democratic and transparent process.
Representatives of the components expressed concern that, 2 years after that process, the Kurdistan Parliament has been paralyzed because of the political parties’ failure to reach an agreement. They also indicated that this paralysis represents a retreat from realizing the will of the people and a devaluation of the political process, and will also have a negative impact on domestic and international public opinion.
Another section of the statement said that the continuation of this situation weakens citizens’ confidence in constitutional institutions and serves only those parties that do not want the interests of the Kurdistan Region and its components.
In conclusion, representatives of the Chaldean, Syriac, Assyrian and Armenian components addressed a fraternal appeal to all Kurdistani factions to work with initiative and courage to reactivate the Parliament, with the aim of carrying out its legislative and oversight duties and protecting the Region’s constitutional entity.
