The death toll from a missile attack by Houthi fighters on a Yemeni government forces military base in Shabwa province has risen to at least 50, while more than 100 others were injured, some of them in critical condition.
Fahad Khalifi, deputy governor of Shabwa, told Agence France-Presse that the death toll from the attack had risen to 50, whereas military sources had initially reported 30 deaths. However, the figure increased because of the severity of the injuries suffered by those affected.
The deputy governor of Shabwa also said that, because of the large number of injured people, hospitals in the province's border areas had reached their capacity, leaving them unable to accommodate the large number of casualties. As a result, all those whose health conditions were highly critical were transferred to hospitals and health centers in the neighboring provinces of Hadramaut and Aden.
