As part of the process of granting land to public-sector employees on the recommendation of Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, today, Monday, 19 October, at a ceremony held by lottery, approximately 1700 plots of land were distributed within the municipal boundaries of Gwer and Sfeiya.
The ceremony was conducted under the supervision of Sasan Awni, Minister of Municipalities and Tourism, and Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, in the presence of the director general of the Erbil municipalities and administrative officials of the area. Within this framework, 1062 plots of land were allocated to employees of Gwer and 178 plots to employees of Sfeiya. Along with the distribution of compensatory land plots to rights holders, the total number of lottery-distributed plots reached approximately 1700.
In a speech, the Governor of Erbil expressed his happiness at the completion of this stage and stated that carrying out this process in those areas is particularly important, because, in addition to employees attaining their rights, the lands are also located within the boundaries of the disputed areas. On behalf of the governorate and the employees, he thanked the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region for the decision to grant the land and commended the municipal teams that had worked overnight to implement the transactions.
Omed Khoshnaw highlighted the overall statistics of the process within the area and revealed that previously, within the boundaries of the General Directorate of Erbil Municipalities, 36 thousand plots of land had been distributed among employees. With the distribution of today’s land, the total will reach approximately 38 thousand plots, thereby benefiting the largest number of employees within Erbil Governorate.
It is worth noting that the land-granting process is being carried out pursuant to a decision of the Kurdistan Region Council of Ministers dated 27 March 2024, under which every employee, teacher, Peshmerga member and employee of the internal security forces who has at least 8 years of service, along with retirees who did not benefit during their service, is granted a 200-square-meter plot of land in accordance with the directives.
