The Raparin Police Directorate announced that its officers at the Ranya Crime Prevention Office arrested a suspect accused of luring girls through the social media platform Snapchat.
According to a statement from Raparin police, the suspect used a Snapchat account to claim that he could facilitate marriage through “prayers and amulets” for girls who had not married. In reality, however, this was entirely untrue, and he lured the girls for sexual purposes.
After receiving information and organizing an investigation file, the Ranya Crime Prevention Office managed to arrest the suspect, identified as (J, A, H), who is male and holds Syrian nationality, in less than 24 hours. The Snapchat account he used for the fraud was also seized.
Police revealed that the suspect confessed to his crime before the police and investigating judge. He is currently being held by order of the judge under Article 240 of the Iraqi Penal Code, and the investigation into his case is ongoing.
