The US secretary of state stated that Tehran has lost full control of the Strait of Hormuz and that oil exports through this strategic route have returned to nearly the level they were at before the conflicts began.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters during his visit to Athens, the capital of Greece: The Strait of Hormuz is open, and the amount of oil currently passing through it is close to the level it was at before these conflicts began. Therefore, we can say that Iran has lost full control of the strait.
The US secretary of state also indicated that US economic sanctions have caused Iran's economy to face a complete and comprehensive collapse, and that the country is now in a very difficult and sensitive economic situation.
Regarding Iran's nuclear program, Rubio stressed that Iran has lost several opportunities to reach an agreement with the United States. The US secretary of state forcefully reiterated his country's position and said: Iran must not become the possessor of a nuclear weapon; this is a simple matter and the end of the story. Any agreement reached with Tehran must ensure that Iran never becomes the possessor of a nuclear weapon.
Rubio's remarks are a clear indication that the United States is continuing to adopt a strategy of maximum pressure against Iran and will make no concessions on the nuclear dossier.
