The Erbil Provincial Police Directorate announced that it had foiled an armed attack plot intended as revenge in front of the primary courthouse and arrested a masked suspect with a weapon before the crime could be carried out.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the Erbil Police Directorate said its forces had successfully foiled a plot to commit a crime in front of the Erbil primary courthouse, arrested the suspect and seized his weapon.
The statement said that while the trial proceedings were under way for two suspects, identified as (H. T.) and (M. T.), who have been accused since (May 25, 2024) of murdering their cousin, identified as (K. K. M.), a citizen identified as (M. J. M.) attempted to commit a crime using a weapon for the purpose of revenge. The suspect had worn a mask to conceal his identity, but before carrying out his intention, he was stopped by police teams and immediately arrested; his weapon was also seized.
Erbil Police also said that the suspect has now been handed over to the law and an investigation file has been opened into the incident.
