Because the Kurdistan flag was raised and the national anthem “Ey Reqîb” was sung at the opening ceremony of the new school year, and it was allegedly the case that the Iraqi flag was not raised and Iraq’s national anthem was sung late, the Tuz Khurmatu district administration filed a legal complaint against the principal of Mevlawi School.
Zeynep Adil, the school principal, who is Turkmen, said: “What I did was not illegal; rather, the constitution permits it. In Tuz Khurmatu, we do not discriminate between ethnic groups, and the school is not a place for ethnic division but a place for education.” She also said that she would go to the Education Directorate tomorrow and was ready for any procedure.
