Social media reported on Monday that a citizen had been killed on the Erbil–Shaqlawa road, but Erbil Security released a video today and said that the citizen had died in a traffic accident and that the driver had been arrested.
In a statement today, Tuesday 6 October 2026, the Erbil Security Directorate said that on 4 October 2026, on the (Erbil - Shaqlawa) road near Baneman village, the body of a citizen named (Sanaan Abdulrahman Taha) was found.
The statement said that the criminal investigation team of the Erbil Security Directorate immediately began follow-up work in coordination with the Pirmam Security Directorate. It emerged that a cargo vehicle had struck the citizen, then left his body at the scene and fled.
Erbil Security also said that after the driver’s identity was established, the suspect, identified as (G. S. S.), was arrested pursuant to a judicial order from the security investigating judge. Investigations also showed that the incident was a traffic accident, and inquiries into all its details are continuing.
