President Barzani received the new head of the European Union office in Erbil and discussed the situation in the region, the process of reactivating parliament, and the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet.
On Tuesday, 20 October 2026, in Pirmam, President Masoud Barzani received Mr. Stefan Vent, the new head of the European Union Liaison Office in Erbil.
During the meeting, Stefan Vent expressed his pleasure at meeting with President Barzani and beginning his new duties in the Kurdistan Region, and praised the openness and hospitality of the people of Kurdistan. He also stated that the European Union places great importance on the position and influence of the Kurdistan Region at the level of Iraq and the region, and considers itself a supporter and partner of the Region.
During the same meeting, light was shed on the political situation, developments and complexities in the region, and views were exchanged on the obstacles facing the reactivation of parliament and the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet.
