The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that, as a result of efforts to clear the Strait of Hormuz of naval mines laid by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, commercial routes are now open and face no danger.
Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the United States Central Command, said during his visit to the Strait of Hormuz that, since the summer, U.S. forces have helped their partners in the Persian Gulf safely export more than 1.5 billion barrels of crude oil.
According to a CENTCOM statement, more than 3,000 commercial vessels have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz over the past six months. It also stated that 95% of the vessels that passed through the strait reached their destinations safely, despite obstacles created by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to maritime traffic.
Admiral Cooper emphasized that the U.S. commitment to preserving freedom of maritime movement in the region is unwavering and that, in cooperation with its partners in the Persian Gulf and the shipping sector, it will continue to help ensure the security of this important international route.
