CNN has revealed in an exclusive report that the US military is drawing up new plans to attack Iran’s energy and nuclear facilities, and that among these plans, the possibility of using the MOAB bomb, known as the “mother of all bombs” — considered the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in the United States — is being discussed and examined.
According to information provided to the network by informed sources, if US President Donald Trump gives the order, these plans could be carried out before or after the congressional midterm elections. The sources said Trump had ordered planning for a larger number of targets in Iran, particularly energy infrastructure, with the aim of having the United States declare victory after the attacks and withdraw its forces from the region.
Despite these plans, military officials doubt the effectiveness of the “mother of all bombs” for destroying nuclear targets. They say that although the bomb has enormous explosive power, it was not designed to destroy deep and underground facilities and will probably be unable to eliminate Iran’s fortified nuclear bases.
Some US officials believe that using this bomb would be primarily psychological and would give Trump an opportunity to successfully exit the current situation without starting a broad war.
Meanwhile, a White House official, responding to a CNN question, declined to comment on the military plans but stressed that Trump has kept all options on the table to ensure that Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon.
