US President Donald Trump announced that Washington has halted arms and ammunition sales to its allies until the process of replenishing his country’s weapons stockpiles is completed. Trump stressed that the United States currently needs this ammunition to meet its military requirements.
In an interview with Newsmax, Trump said: “In the past period, we began stockpiling ammunition for ourselves because we need it. Once we have completely filled our warehouses, we will then resume selling arms to our allies.”
Donald Trump blamed his country’s former president, Joe Biden, for the shortage, saying: “What Biden did with Ukraine and the large amount of weapons he sent for free caused this situation to arise.”
In early October, Trump acknowledged that stocks of some weapons and ammunition in the War Department’s (Pentagon’s) warehouses had declined because of military operations carried out against Iran. He also noted that his administration is now working to make up for this shortfall and increase arms production.
It is worth noting that last January, Trump had requested that US defense spending increase by more than 50 percent and reach 1.5 trillion dollars in 2027, while Congress had approved a record budget of 901 billion dollars for the defense sector last December.
