U.S. officials revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump has been briefed by the Pentagon on several military options against Iran, including an attack on the country’s nuclear facilities.
The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, reported that the military options presented to Trump include attacks on nuclear facilities, key infrastructure, such as bridges, and Iranian-controlled islands. Meanwhile, Trump is inclined to resume major military operations, although no final decision has yet been made on the matter.
At the same time, critics warn that a missile attack cannot force Tehran to abandon its nuclear program, but would instead cause a sharp increase in energy prices on global markets.
The newspaper also noted that a large shipment of long-range offensive land-attack missiles and heavy bunker-buster bombs had recently arrived aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington in the Arabian Sea, indicating preparations for a large-scale bombing campaign. At present, 2 American aircraft carriers are deployed in the Middle East, and a third carrier is also heading toward the region from the Pacific Ocean.
