U.S. officials revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump has been briefed by the Pentagon on several military options against Iran, including strikes on that country’s nuclear facilities.
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing U.S. officials, that the military options presented to Trump include strikes on nuclear facilities, key infrastructure, such as bridges, and attacks on the islands under Iran’s control. At the same time, Trump is inclined to resume major military operations, although no final decision has yet been made on the matter.
Meanwhile, critics warn that a missile attack cannot force Tehran to abandon its nuclear program, but would instead cause a significant increase in energy prices in global markets.
The newspaper also noted that recently a large shipment of long-range surface-attack missiles and heavy bunker-busting bombs arrived aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington in the Arabian Sea, indicating preparations for a broad bombardment. At the same time, 2 U.S. aircraft carriers are currently stationed in the Middle East, and a third vessel is moving toward the region from the Pacific Ocean.
