Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Oslo, the capital of Norway, to hold a series of sensitive diplomatic talks aimed at ending the war in his country, and held a series of meetings with European leaders and a high-level US delegation.
The Ukrainian president first met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and later took part in a broader meeting with US special envoy Steve Witkoff and US negotiator Jared Kushner, alongside representatives of Germany, the European Union and the NATO alliance.
The main topics of the talks were providing security guarantees for Ukraine, determining the fate of sanctions against Russia and formulating Europe’s security arrangements in the postwar period. In that context, the Norwegian prime minister revealed that following these meetings, US envoy Steve Witkoff would travel to St. Petersburg to continue diplomatic efforts and hold talks with Russian officials.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy revealed that the United States had resumed providing Kyiv with intelligence regarding Russian attacks, particularly early-warning information to protect civilians. This followed a series of talks with officials in Washington, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He also stressed that his country does not consider itself defeated and is determined to achieve a just peace.
The intense diplomatic activity in Oslo comes after relations between Washington and Kyiv became strained and complicated in recent weeks over delays in delivering air-defense systems, problems with Starlink services and steps by the Trump administration to ease some of the sanctions on Moscow.
