Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Oslo, the capital of Norway, to hold several sensitive diplomatic talks aimed at ending the war in his country, and conducted a series of meetings with European leaders and a senior delegation from the United States.
The Ukrainian president first met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, then took part in an expanded meeting attended by Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special envoy, and Jared Kushner, the American negotiator, along with representatives of Germany, the European Union and the NATO alliance.
The main topics of the talks were providing security guarantees for Ukraine, determining the fate of sanctions imposed on Russia, and drawing up European security arrangements for the postwar period. In this regard, the Norwegian prime minister revealed that following these meetings, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff would travel to the city of St. Petersburg to continue diplomatic efforts and talks with Russian officials.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy disclosed that after a series of talks with officials in Washington, including U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the United States had resumed providing Kyiv with information on Russian attacks, particularly early warnings to protect civilians. At the same time, he stressed that his country did not consider itself a loser and was determined to achieve a just peace.
The intensive diplomatic activity in Oslo comes after relations between Washington and Kyiv had grown cooler and more strained in recent weeks over delays in delivering air-defense systems, problems with Starlink services, and steps by the Trump administration to ease some of the sanctions against Moscow.
