The American newspaper Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by telephone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday morning, as the United States prepares for the possibility of resuming war against Iran. Several days earlier, Trump had also met with senior military commanders at the White House to discuss options for restarting a broader military operation in the region.
Israeli media reported that Trump is facing pressure from Netanyahu to resume military operations against Iran after the U.S. elections. In this regard, the Hebrew-language Channel 12 reported, citing U.S. officials, that Netanyahu is pressuring the U.S. administration to resume the war, while mediating countries are seeking to bring Tehran and Washington closer together and reach an agreement.
Israeli officials have described the current days as “very sensitive” and stressed that senior commanders in the Israeli military are maintaining daily and continuous contact with their American counterparts. According to the channel’s sources, any potential military action against Iran would differ from previous operations in terms of the scale of forces and the nature of the targets, as both sides are engaged in intensive coordination to identify designated military targets.
These developments coincide with diplomatic efforts by Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt to ease the situation and prevent the war from escalating through negotiations.
