The decision and the green light from Iran’s Supreme Leader give the diplomatic team and government greater latitude to enter a dialogue process with the United States within the framework of advancing the country’s national interests and resolving the issue of sanctions.
The position comes as officials in Tehran have stressed in recent stages that, if Washington complies with key conditions and lifts the sanctions, the door to understanding and indirect or direct negotiations remains open. Granting this authority also provides an opportunity for Iran’s negotiating delegation to move forward with the backing of the country’s highest political and religious authority.
