Today, Friday, November 6, 2026, the Civil Defense Directorate of the Soran Independent Administration said in a statement that it had immediately launched a rescue operation after its control room was notified that a seven-member hiking group had gone missing in a difficult, high-altitude mountainous area. The hikers reportedly lost their way because they were unfamiliar with the area and weather conditions had deteriorated.
The statement said that five rescue and mountain teams, along with a specialized team from the Sidekan area, were taking part in the search-and-rescue operation and continuing efforts to find them.
Soran Civil Defense said that, so far, the locations of two of the hikers had been identified on the mountain, but the fate of the other five remained unknown. According to the information available, all members of the hiking group are residents of Duhok province.
