After Real Madrid, led by José Mourinho, managed to decisively defeat Hansi Flick’s Barcelona in yesterday’s Clásico, Mourinho responded to criticism and questions at a press conference.
Mourinho: “VAR was asleep and we have our eyes on the title”
Mourinho described the match as exceptional and said: “We did not come only to win this match; our aim is to win the Spanish league title.” Regarding the referees’ decisions, Mourinho did not hide his anger and said: “The referees on the pitch were good, but the VAR room was asleep for 60 minutes, because they did not give João Cancelo an obvious red card for his strong challenge against Dio Mandé.”
Regarding the substitutions, he said: “My team consists of more than 11 players. Camavinga’s introduction made a difference, and I also thank Lunin, who calmly fulfilled his role at a crucial moment.”
Flick’s double defeat: sacrificing Europe for La Liga
Meanwhile, Hansi Flick faced fierce criticism after losing his previous Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain and yesterday’s Clásico. Regarding putting Rodri on the bench, Flick said: “Thinking about the Clásico influenced my decisions.”
Experts have described Flick’s move as “a fatal mistake.” Barcelona’s history in the Champions League, where 11 years have passed since it last won the title, is putting immense pressure on the team, but with this decision Flick sacrificed the Paris Saint-Germain match for El Clásico and lost both.
